The Jackson
Education Foundation
The Jackson Education Foundation, Inc. (JEF) was established in 2010 with one clear mission:
to strengthen physiotherapy education in sub-Saharan Africa. Every dollar we receive goes directly toward that mission—100% of donated funds support physiotherapy education in East and Central Africa, especially through our programs in Nairobi, Kenya. No administrative fees are deducted, allowing every gift to go where it is needed most.

Our Impact
JEF supports two distinct program tracks, degrees and spcializations. Our Bachelor Upgrade and Bachelor’s degree programs are formal academic pathways that lead to a recognized university degree. This is especially important in sub-Saharan Africa, where many physiotherapists begin their careers with a three-year diploma earned directly after high school.
Through the generosity of our donors, JEF helped lay the foundation for the Bachelor Upgrade pathway by developing the required hybrid courses, funding U.S.-based Doctors of Physical Therapy to record them on an interactive learning platform, and donating those courses to AMREF International University (AMIU). That investment helped make it possible for diploma-trained physiotherapists to advance to a Bachelor’s degree in Physiotherapy—opening doors to greater professional opportunity and expanding access to higher-quality care in the communities they serve.
Our Specialization Courses meet a different need. They offer focused advanced training in key areas of physiotherapy practice, lead to recognized certifications, and can also count toward future degree study, depending on the university. In other words, they help clinicians improve patient care now while also creating new opportunities for academic and professional growth.
Through partnerships with Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) and AMREF International University (AMIU), we have already helped nearly 400 physiotherapy students graduate—each one now serving patients, families, and entire communities.
And we are just getting started:
• 300+ students are currently advancing their education across multiple programs
• We are on track to graduate 100 new clinicians every year
Each graduate represents hundreds—often thousands—of patients who will receive better care over the course of that clinician’s career.
Our work goes beyond funding education. We also bring expert physical therapists from the United States to teach, mentor, and help elevate standards of care. These volunteers do more than train students—they help develop leaders who will shape the future of healthcare in their regions.
The result is a powerful ripple effect:
• Better-trained clinicians
• Stronger healthcare systems
• Healthier communities

Our Faculty & Philosophy
Our faculty members serve as stewards of the profession, helping prepare the next generation of advanced physiotherapists.
Their role extends far beyond teaching. They mentor practitioners in:
• Evidence-based patient care
• Integrating research into clinical practice
• Collaborating across multidisciplinary teams
• Maintaining a commitment to lifelong learning
By nurturing curiosity, passion, and professional responsibility, we aim to inspire current
and future practitioners to engage actively in their communities and professional
organizations—creating a lasting ripple effect in healthcare.
The Ripple Effect
With a strong foundation in place, our programs continue to grow and evolve. Yet our mission remains the same: to improve human lives.
We believe in the transformative power of education, guided by a simple but profound principle:
“Teach One – Treat Many.”
That is the heart of everything we do.
When you support The Jackson Education Foundation, you are not just helping one student—you are helping every patient they will ever treat.
You are investing in:
• A mother who can return to work pain-free
• A child who can walk again
• A community gaining access to life-changing care
